All this week I was one of 100 artists to take part in Plein Air Brandywine Valley Art Competition. The Gala opening is tonight, if you can't attend the swanky gala tonight, see if you can come see the exhibit now through this Sunday at 4pm, location is at the Tatnall School. I can't wait to see everyone's work tonight. I was too busy painting and missed seeing all my friend's masterpieces.

Update via Carol Hart Metzker:

Great news -
the Human Trafficking Hotline bill (HB 235/SB 338) passed the PA House unanimously at 5:35 last night.

Thanks to all of you and your friends for making calls to get it on the calendar.

We'll probably need similar help to get it through the PA Senate; I'll let you know what's happening with that as soon as I know.

Again, thank you for help,
Carol
Thanks to all who made calls and let their voices be heard!

Urgent help needed it is only a 3 minute effort to call and help stop human trafficking

Please- Urgent- help needed!!!!! It often seems as if human trafficking happens far away from where we live but this is not true just today there was a local news story about a local(Phila) human trafficking case.
If you have three minutes today or early Monday morning and are willing to make two phone calls, you could help make a huge leap in the fight against human trafficking.
Please make two phone calls by Monday. Ask:
PA House Speaker Sam Smith, 717-787-3845 and
PA House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, 717-772-9943
to bring the Human Trafficking Hotline Posting bill (HB235) to a floor vote.
(This would require certain businesses to post the hotline # so victims of human trafficking and tipsters can call for help.) I called this morning; it was easy and painless and it might make life literally more easy and painless for a lot of victims.
This bill has been in the works for three years. If it goes up for a floor vote on Monday, it will probably pass. If it doesn't go up, we could end up starting all over again next year. Numerous calls to these to guys is what is needed.-info came from Carol Hart Metzker author of Facing The Monster, How One person Can End Child Slavery.
Thank you very much for your help. Please if you would forward to others who can also call that would be a big help too.

NEW

Before I go off to paint today I find my self drifting in wonder at the soft autumn light on the curling bark of the large birch tree which makes me totally forget my words that I planned to write you. Something about the school bus emptying my house I think. I am extremely grateful for all the art opportunities I have now and coming as well as some tremendous press I got. Upcoming is , County Press of Newtown Square on my show of brand new painting series at Newtown Square Library all this month. I am one of the featured artists in the new issue of Fig Magazine of West Chester see the Art Issue here Fig Magazine West Chester Art Issue Sept 2012. Also, I will be featured in and article by Carol Hart Metzker in the Women's Journal regarding a waterlily painting I donated for a worthy cause-ending child slavery. Wonderful blessings all.

Friday, July 6, 2012

Due to lack of sleep(I was up painting), I left out a very important show this month  at Steel City Coffeehouse in Phoenixville, PA. Until July 27th.
Dear Friends,

Although 4th of July has passed, I still am grateful for the freedoms we enjoy here. I'm sure you are also. When I think about all we have we are truly blessed.
Here are some upcoming shows in which you can stay cool and see my newest work:

This weekend is the enormous Rockwood Ice Cream Festival on the grounds of the classic English mansion in Rockwood, Wilmington, DE. This weekend Saturday and Sunday. This July 7th and 8th, Delaware will revive a celebration of local dairies, restaurants,
artists, businesses and music at The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival at Rockwood.
Here’s the Scoop-The festival has been a Delaware summer celebration for more than 30 years.
During the last few years of the event there were more than 35,000 attendees.
A focal point of the festival is called Main Street Rockwood, hosting local and
regional artists, eco crafters, antiques, and farm markets. I will have a booth in the Emerging Artists section. This will be fantastic. I am very excited.

When: July 7th 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM and July 8th 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Where: Rockwood Mansion and Gardens, 610 Shipley Road,Wilmington, Delaware 19809

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Another nice surprise. I got quoted in this weeks issue of Chester County Press( May 2nd, 2012) during an interview at Art On The Square In Kennett Square last week.

"I had heard about what was going on in this town from fellow artists," said Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, an artist from Philadelphia, who sold several of her paintings at the festival. "The people I am meeting are giving my work great feedback. I'm receiving affirmation from people I do not know. That's what you want and need as an artist. When you come to a place where art is appreciated, you as an artist have a tendency to want to return there." Very nice, thank you, Richard Gaw!
Lots of ink this week!

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

As a big surprise this week I was mentioned in an article published in Chester County Life. The article spotlights the upcoming Art Jazz Springfest On The Mainline show . It is a lively 3 page spread about the show and several of the artists and I am described by the author as, "Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, a prolific impressionist painter of landscapes and still life." The whole article appears on pages 38-40 of the upcoming May/June 2012 issues of Chester County Life magazine.
